TransfersLocated about 95 km from Jaipur, Abhaneri is a small village that holds one of the most extraordinary examples of ancient Indian architecture – the Chand Baori stepwell. Built over a thousand years ago, this incredible structure features 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect symmetry, plunging more than 13 storeys deep. It is considered one of the largest and most beautiful stepwells in the world.
This same-day trip allows travellers to step away from the busy streets of Jaipur and experience the rural charm of Rajasthan. Along with Chand Baori, you will also visit the historic Harshat Mata Temple, dedicated to the goddess of joy and happiness. The tour offers a mix of heritage, spirituality, and countryside landscapes, making it an excellent choice for culture lovers and photographers.
Your driver will meet you at your hotel in Jaipur in the morning. From here, you will begin the 2-hour drive to Abhaneri. The journey takes you through the rustic countryside of Rajasthan, with glimpses of mustard fields, small villages, and rural life along the way.
Arrival at Abhaneri & Visit to Chand Baori (10:30 AM – 12:00 Noon)
On reaching Abhaneri, the first stop is Chand Baori, a 9th-century stepwell built by King Chanda of the Nikumbha dynasty. This enormous structure is 20 metres deep and has 3,500 perfectly symmetrical steps forming a geometric pattern. The stepwell was used both for water conservation and as a gathering place for locals during summer. Today, it stands as an architectural marvel, drawing travellers and photographers from across the world. As you walk around its galleries and platforms, you will be amazed by the precision and symmetry of the design.
Harshat Mata Temple (12:15 PM – 01:00 PM)
Next, you will visit the nearby Harshat Mata Temple, dedicated to the goddess of joy. Though partially in ruins, the temple showcases intricate stone carvings and sculpted pillars that reflect the grandeur of 9th-century temple architecture. The peaceful setting of the temple adds a spiritual element to the day.
Lunch Break & Rural Exploration (01:00 PM – 02:30 PM)
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant on the way or carry packed meals. After lunch, you can take a short walk around the village to experience rural Rajasthan at its most authentic. Colourful houses, friendly villagers, and simple village life give you a glimpse of traditions that have remained unchanged for centuries.
Return Journey to Jaipur (02:30 PM – 05:00 PM)
After exploring Abhaneri, you will start your drive back to Jaipur. The scenic countryside and peaceful ride make for a relaxing return. By late afternoon or early evening, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Jaipur, completing the day trip.
